Ford Did Not Recant Accusations Against Kavanaugh

During a rally at Missouri the evening before the midterm elections, President Donald Trump stated who”the accuser of Brett Kavanaugh” has”confessed she never met with him she never saw him… it had been bogus accusations, it was a scam, so it was bogus.” Trump had made similar remarks at a rally in Montana two weeks before, stating that”among [Kavanaugh’s] accusers… only came out some time back and said it was a lie; she never fulfilled now-Justice Kavanaugh. … It turned out to be a made-up story”

Some readers called headlines of all posts about a Kavanaugh accuser declaring to making her up and presumed it had been about Ford, though the resultant stories made clear it wasn’t.

It’s certainly clear that a supposed Trump was talking about Ford when he referred to”the accuser of Brett Kavanaugh.” Ford was undoubtedly the most publicly recognized Kavanaugh accuser, and also the only one to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee, an event observed by countless across the nation. Ford stated if both were at high school 36 decades 17, she had been sexually attacked by Kavanaugh.

In reality, Trump referred in the saga, a girl who confessed she falsely claimed to have composed an anonymous letter claiming Kavanaugh and the other guy had mistreated her.

The handwritten anonymous letter in query was delivered to Democratic Sen. Kamala Harris’ office, which instantly passed the letter combined to Senate Judiciary Committee researchers on Sept. 25. The letter, signed”Jane Doe” out of Oceanside, California, alleged that Kavanaugh and yet another guy raped her in the backseat of a vehicle. On Sept. 26, the Senate committee team contested Kavanaugh concerning the accusations in the correspondence. Kavanaugh said the promise was”ridiculous,” a crock” and”did not occur.” A transcript of this interview along with the text of this correspondence was publicly released by the committee which afternoon, and a couple of press sockets — but just a couple — reported on it.

On Oct. 3, two weeks prior to the Senate narrowly supported Kavanaugh, the judiciary committee got an email from Judy Munro-Leighton where she promised to be”Jane Doe out of Oceanside CA.” But during a telephone meeting with judiciary researchers on Nov. 1, Munro-Leighton” confessed, against her previous claims, she hadn’t been sexually attacked by Judge Kavanaugh and wasn’t the writer of the first June Doe’ letter,” based on a letter from Sen. Chuck Grassley speaking Munro-Leighton into the attorney general and FBI for an investigation into potential fees: creating a materially false statement to a Senate committee and obstruction. Based on Grassley’s letter, Munro-Leighton stated she composed the narrative to”catch attention” and it had been”a ploy” to oppose Kavanaugh’s affirmation.

To be clear, however, Senate investigators do not know who composed the first letter which was delivered to Harris’ office it was not Munro-Leighton.

As we mentioned, the allegations found in the anonymous letter weren’t widely documented by national media outlets, not as broadly as the allegations made by Ford, Deborah Ramirez — a classmate of Kavanaugh’s in Yale who stated he subjected himself to her in a celebration — and Julie Swetnick — that maintained she watched Kavanaugh grabbing girls inappropriately.

Along with Munroe-Leighton,” Grassley called Swetnick along with her lawyer, Michael Avenatti, to the Justice Department for criminal investigation related to a possible conspiracy to supply materially false statements to Congress and barrier.

No referral was created for Ramirez or Ford.

Trump originally said he discovered Ford’s testimony”very persuasive” and that she had been a”very credible witness.” However, he told her memory of this occasion — in some instances falsely — and questioned its own truth. Following Kavanaugh’s affirmation, Trump stated that he had been”100 percent sure” that Kavanaugh didn’t commit any sexual attack.
